Simple Morning Rituals
If mornings are a drag, that needs to be fixed. Starting the day right makes a huge difference in how well your day goes. Here are some easy fixes to help you get out of bed on the right side of the bed more often:
- Step 1: Plan your day the night before. Get a good night’s rest and wake up ready to go by laying out your day the night beforehand. Having a solid game plan for the day can really help you hit the ground running and be effective from the moment you hop out of bed.
- Step 2: Find a breakfast that works for you. Not everyone is a fan of a big breakfast, and that’s okay. But you do need to eat something when you first get up. If cooking big when you first get up is not your thing, try a rich breakfast smoothie and fresh fruit or fruit juice and a breakfast bar. It does not need to be complicated or time consuming to help you get your gears in motion. It can be both healthy and quick, if that is more your cup of tea.
- Step 3: Implement good sleep hygiene. Sleep quantity is not everything. Sleep quality also matters a great deal. Sleep hygiene refers to a number of best practices for helping you sleep well, including going to bed at the same time each night. But if you have allergies or respiratory problems, just washing your bedding more, avoiding down-filled bedding and dusting your sleep area thoroughly can make a huge difference.
- Step 4: Use natural light to help you wake up. Studies show that the best way to resolve jet lag is to get enough exposure to natural sunlight. Sunlight is one of the best ways to tell your body “It’s time to wake up!” This can be as simple as opening the blinds when you first get up.
- Step 5: Have a positive reason to get up. Whether it is quality time with your loved ones, inspirational wall art or your favorite music, give yourself something to look forward to in the mornings. Make sure you have a positive reason to get up, so it feels less like a chore.
Try one of these tomorrow morning and see how much good it does you. Then add the others as soon as possible. Within a week, you should be seeing a real difference in your mornings.
